The MHA Health, Research and Education Foundation (MHA-F) is excited to announce a new quality improvement opportunity for hospitals in Mississippi. Hospital eligibility selection was based on one or more of the qualifying criteria:
1) Rural 2) Critical access 3) Serve vulnerable population or 4) Hospitals classified as consistently having a 2-star rating or lower (FY 2017- FY2020)
In June 2020, CMS announced plans to continue efforts aimed at acute care hospitals, with a focus on serving rural and underserved populations. The start date for this new opportunity was September 15, 2020. Goals of this effort align with the 12th Scope of Work and include:
• Improving Behavioral Health Outcomes, including a focus on decreased opioid use
• Increasing Patient Safety, reducing all-cause harm
• Increasing the Quality of Care transitions, reducing readmissions
Our team has entered a partnership with the Iowa Healthcare Collaborative (IHC), a prime hospital improvement contractor to CMS, to provide expertise and leadership in the next contract period. The IHC has led hospitals during the past eight years in the prior two improvement initiatives offered by CMS and has extensive expertise working with rural, critical access and medically under-served areas. IHC is uniquely positioned to lead a cohort of hospitals from Iowa, Kansas, South Dakota, and Mississippi. This cohort will be named the Compass network.
The MHA-F is excited to launch a program that is no cost to the hospital and has fresh and robust offerings that bring value, support continued quality and patient safety efforts. The focus will be on data collection, analysis, and improvement as well as education for hospital staff and the community.
