The Mississippi Center for Quality and Workforce is focused on solutions for the emerging healthcare workforce challenges due to nursing workforce retirements, the chronic and progressive conditions requiring nursing care for over 70 million retiring baby boomers, and the growing complexities of healthcare reform. MCQW continues to expand partnerships between the education community, healthcare providers, the state workforce system and the general public to promote a strong, supportive infrastructure to Mississippi’s healthcare workforce.

The Mississippi Center for Quality and Workforce, formerly known as the Mississippi Office of Nursing Workforce, was established July 1, 2015. Building on the previous 19 years of workforce research, analysis and collaborative solutions, MCQW continues to be a involved in carry on the scope of work to support a nursing dynamic workforce in Continuing under the administration of the Mississippi Hospital Association Health, Research, and Educational Foundation, MCQW will continue to assess , analyze and meeting the healthcare needs of Mississippians. In addition to addressing the nursing workforce, MCQW has expanded its mission with the inclusion of Quality in Healthcare.

Historically The Mississippi Office of Nursing Workforce was founded in 1996, when the Mississippi Nurses Association (MNA) successfully lobbied the state legislature to pass the Nursing Workforce Redevelopment Act. The act authorized the Mississippi Board of Nursing (MBON) to establish an entity to address changes influencing the nursing workforce. MONW was established through combined funding from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Mississippi Legislature, as well as other partnering agencies. The MHA-F served as the administrative agent.

MCQW initiatives include:

  • Assisting in the creation of community partnerships to foster ground-breaking healthcare education strategies.
  • Providing healthcare workplace improvement consultations.
  • Providing healthcare leadership training.
  • Improving Quality outcomes for patients through innovative work products
