Meet Our Speaker: 

 Laura Brower, RN, MSN
Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer Augusta University Medical Center 
Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs College of Nursing, Augusta University

Laura Brower is a native of Tupelo, Mississippi. She served as the Chief Nursing Executive with Methodist Healthcare System (MHS), an eight-hospital system in San Antonio, Texas, where she was responsible for 3500 nurses working to advance patient centered care and professional practice. Laura co-led the MHS team to achieve the Distinguished Hospital for Clinical Excellence and the Texas Gold Quality Award. Her areas of expertise include patient safety, quality of care, nursing education, physician relations, leadership development, regulatory compliance, healthcare administration and she has over 35 years health care experience in a variety of clinical, educational and administrative positions. Mrs. Brower previously served a dual role as the Chief Nursing Executive and Vice President of Professional Services with North Mississippi Medical Center (NMMC); a six hospital system in Tupelo, Mississippi. There she co-led the NMMC team to successfully achieve the prestigious Malcom Baldrige award in 2006. Mrs. Brower previously served as President of the Mississippi Board of Nursing and Chairperson of the Mississippi Office of Nursing Workforce. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International, the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE), the American Nursing Association, the Georgia Nursing Association, the Georgia Organization of Nurse Leaders (GONL) and the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE).

Mrs. Brower has a BS and Master' s degree in Nursing from the University of Southern Mississippi, in Hattiesburg. She has received awards including Top 40 under 40 Business Award (1995), Mississippi Nursing Association Administrator of the Year (1996), Mississippi 50 Leading Business Women (2002), Women of Success (2008), Mississippi Nurses Hall of Fame (2010), and Excellence in Nursing Award San Antonio Medical Rotary Club (2012).

In June 2014, Laura Brower joined Augusta University Medical Center (AUMC) as the VP and Chief Nursing Officer, in Augusta, Georgia, where she is accountable for the practice and the development of the Patient Care Services for an academic medical center. She has the responsibility for providing strategic leadership and operational guidance for clinical services across the Augusta University Health System, including Emergency Services, Medical Surgical, Intensive Care, Perioperative Services, Cardiology, Neurology, Respiratory Care, Rehabilitation Services, Social Services, Women's Services, Care Coordination, Utilization Review, Clinical Documentation Improvement, Transfer Center, Ambulatory Care, and Warms Springs Rehabilitation Services. She has the responsibility for leading the practice of nursing, the development of nursing services and the evaluation and implementation of clinical programs/services across the Health System in collaboration with the medical staff. She has initiated the journey for Magnet designation, launching nursing strategic planning, nursing research capacity, the AU Medical Center Nursing Foundation and the Nursing Leadership Development Academy.

In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by AXIS Medical Education and the Mississippi Hospital Association.  AXIS Medical Education is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
