HIPAA Privacy Officer Boot Camp
Jim Sheldon-Dean will present a full-day presentation on the topic of HIPAA Privacy Officer 101 in person at a meeting of the Mississippi Hospital Association on December 5, 2019, to provide background on HIPAA compliance for the new HIPAA officer (or one looking for a refresher) as well as provide specific details on current topics of interest to HIPAA compliance officers.
AXIS Medical Education designates this continuing nursing education activity for 5.0 contact hours.
Objectives
The day’s presentation will serve four objectives:
1. Enable the attendee to understand the origin and purposes of the HIPAA regulations, understand how the rules interact with each other and other rules, and understand various business relationships under HIPAA, including ACEs, OHCAs, and HIPAA Business Associate relationships.
2. Provide the attendee with information on the proper handling of individual rights under HIPAA, including understanding what patients may expect for rights, how to respond to various requests to exercise rights, and how to handle individual rights of access and communication preferences.
3. Provide an understanding for the attendee of the limitations on uses and disclosures of Protected Health Information under HIPAA, including issues around consents, authorizations, and communication with family and friends of patients.
4. Enable the attendee to understand how good information security practices and the consideration of HHS enforcement actions and large breaches suffered by other entities can help direct efforts to protect patient information and protect your organization.
