Tax Reform Impact on Tax-Exempt Hospitals- What Tax Cuts?

Course Curriculum
The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 was a major rewrite of the Internal Revenue Code.  Eddie will address the statutory changes included in the act that will impact tax-exempt hospitals, their for-profit subsidiaries and potentially the executives of such hospitals.  He will review regulatory and other guidance issued by the IRS intended to interpret the law.  Finally, our speaker will review certain planning strategies to attempt to minimize the impact of the changes.

Learning Objectives 
At the conclusion of this session, the participants will be able to:
1. Identify tax changes that directly impact tax-exempt hospitals. 
2. Identify major tax changes impacting for-profit affiliates of tax-exempt hospitals systems. 
3. Prepare for the effective dates of these new provisions. 
4. Discuss planning techniques that are designed to minimize the impact of these provisions. 

Target Audience
This session intended for, but not limited to CFOs, Controllers and other executives/management team members involved in hospital finance who are impacted by the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017.

Faculty

Eddie Phillips, principal in the tax practice, with Draffin & Tucker, focuses on the healthcare industry. He specializes in providing tax compliance and tax advisory services to multi-entity healthcare systems and large physician group practices. Eddie has represented several organizations in IRS examinations and successfully appealed two tax-exempt revocation cases.

He is currently involved in the full range of federal and state tax services provided to hospitals, physician groups, nursing homes, health insurance companies and other healthcare organizations. Eddie’s experience includes tax compliance and advisory services for multi-entity healthcare systems, physician/hospital joint ventures, hospital restructurings, executive and deferred compensation arrangements, and foreign and alternative investments.
