Mississippi Cares is the Mississippi Hospital Association’s proposal for expanding healthcare coverage to low income working Mississippians. Under the proposal, Mississippi hospitals would provide hundreds of thousands of Mississippians healthcare coverage through a hospital owned non-profit health plan which is funded by a combination of federal dollars, hospital contributions and plan member premiums. No state tax dollars would be needed to fund the plan. The health plan would incentivize primary care services and use technology to improve health care conditions.
