CPHQ-Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality© CPHQ Review Course

This program will be presented by the National Association for Healthcare Quality and takes place September 11 and 12 at MHA in Madison, MS. On September 13, at the same facility, the annual meeting of the Healthcare Quality and the Organization of Nurse Executives will be held. Please consider registering for both programs!

The overall course goal is to provide a review of key concepts that will assist healthcare quality professionals to prepare for the CPHQ Certification Examination

Registration Rates: 
- MHA HIIN MEMBER - $0 to register (email [email protected] to find out if your facility is a member of MHA HIIN)
- NAHQ MEMBER (but not MHA HIIN member) - $423 per person to register
- ALL OTHERS (not HIIN or NAHQ member) - $529 per person to register 

CANCELLATION POLICY: For all participants (HIIN, NAHQ, and ALL OTHERS), Cancellation must take place by September 6, 2019 in order to be refunded or in order to not be penalized.

MHA HIIN members: You  must cancel by September 6, 2109. If you do not cancel or attend the program, your facility will be charged $423 for your registration. 

You may send a substitute at any time - even on meeting day without first letting us know. 


Objectives:  Module 1: Course Introduction and Examination Review

1. Determine the structure and process for the examination
2. Identify test taking tips
3. Recognize examination resources to use following the course

Objectives:  Module 2: Organizational Leadership

1. Identify activities to support organizational commitment to quality
2. Describe strategic planning related to quality
3. Identify alignment between quality/safety activities and strategic goals
4. Describe measures to engage stakeholders in promoting quality and safety
5. Identify role of quality in supporting governing body regarding credentialing, privileging, and quality oversight
6. Facilitate development of quality structure
7. Evaluate and integrate external best practices
8. Describe quality professional's involvement in population health promotion and continuum of care activities
9. Describe quality initiatives impacting reimbursement
10. Identify statutory and regulatory requirements
11. Describe appropriate accreditation, certification, and recognition options
12. Identify interventions to assist with survey readiness and evaluate compliance with internal and external guidelines and regulations
13. Identify components of performance, process, and quality improvement training, and mechanisms for evaluating training
14. Identify strategies to disseminate performance, process, and quality improvement information within the organization
 
Objectives:  Module 3: Performance and Process Improvement

1. Describe performance and process improvement, including quality improvement opportunities
2. Identify methods to establish priorities, develop action plans, and evaluate success of performance improvement projects
3. Describe team roles, responsibilities, and scope
4. Determine when and how to use teams for quality problems
5. Describe methods to evaluate team effectiveness
6. Describe implementation of performance improvement methods such as Lean, PDSA, Six Sigma
7. Describe documentation of performance and process improvement results
8. Identify actions to lead and facilitate change

Objectives:  Module 4: Health Data Analytics

1. Describe the process of maintaining confidentiality of performance/quality improvement records and reports
2. Identify the process of data collection, including developing and selecting measures, selecting tools and techniques, and sampling methodology
3. Describe the use of data management systems to organize data for analyzing and reporting
4. Identify statistical analysis methods, including tools to display data or evaluate a process
5. Explain statistical process control including common and special cause variation
6. Describe the process of interpreting data to support decision making, including comparing data to benchmarks

Objectives:  Module 5: Patient Safety

1. Identify methods to assess organization's culture of safety
2. Identify role of technology in enhancing patient safety
3. Identify quality professional’s role in integrating safety activities throughout the organization
4. Identify use of human factors engineering, high reliability, and systems thinking in safety activities
5. Identify ways to participate in safety and risk management assessment activities, including incident reporting, sentinel event review, root cause analysis, and failure mode and effects analysis
