WEBINAR: CMS Survey Readiness 101
Program Overview
Hospitals must be prepared top to bottom for a survey from Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the state survey agency or even Joint Commission or Det Norske Veritas at any day or time. These surveys can occur for a variety of reasons including recertification surveys, validation survey of deemed hospitals or Critical Access Hospitals, complaint investigations or self-reported event investigations. Proper preparation can help hospitals avoid and minimize adverse findings discovered during a governmental or accrediting organization survey. This webinar will assist hospitals to best prepare and manage these unannounced surveys.

•Describe what the hospital should do upon notification of surveyors at the door.
•Discuss how to prepare front line staff for surveyor questions and observations.
•Review examples of how the hospital can keep current on changes in regulations.
•Discuss methods of how to be your own watchdog.
Intended Audience
This program is intended for all hospitals including general acute hospitals, Critical Access Hospitals and anyone involved with compliance regulations and standards, including but not limited to CEOs, CMOs, CNOs, physicians, nurses, quality improvement staff, risk managers, compliance officers and legal counsel, Joint Commission liaisons, safety officers, department directors and other interested staff.
Speaker Biographies
Nancy Ruzicka has taught about state and federal rules, regulations and interpretative guidelines. Her previous work experiences includes director of integrity and compliance and privacy official at Mercy Medical Center, Des Moines; director of regulatory compliance at UnityPoint Health, Des Moines and more than 20 years of experience with the Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals. Ruzicka holds graduate degrees in health law and business administration and a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy, all from Drake University. She is certified in health care compliance and maintains her Iowa pharmacy license.
