James L. Reinertsen, M.D., is chief executive officer of The Reinertsen Group. The Reinertsen Group, based in Alta, Wyoming, is an independent consulting and teaching practice that helps health care leaders create organizational environments in which high-quality work by doctors and nurses can thrive.
He is senior fellow at the Institute for Health Care Improvement, where he heads the leadership development sector. Dr. Reinertsen is a successful medical doctor and is a highly visible leader in the quality improvement movement.

Veteran photographer Karen Kasmauski focuses her lens on the personal stories of the people she photographs. Very often these stories center on health, community, family, and activism. She has a gift for distilling sweeping change and global issues into a single image, relying on her training in social science to blend a therapist's sensitivity with a photographer's eye for detail.Born on a U.S. Naval base in Japan, Kasmauski, developed her wanderlust early in life. Her job with National Geographic has kept her on the road for most of the past 20 years.

Larry W. Walker, president of The Walker Company, founded the company in 1991 after spending over 18 years as a publishing executive. He received as Bachelors of Science in Journalism from the University of Oregon in 1971. He will present Call to Order: An Inside Look at the Causes and Effects of Governance Breakdowns. Every hospital and health system board strives for high governance effectiveness, but too often governance errors occur and leadership opportunities go unrealized. This lively and provocative program allows you to peer in on a hospital board meeting in action. You’ll be the governance experts as you watch trustees wrestle with a variety of governance issues and challenges, spot governance errors and leadership “near misses,” and look for the root causes of governance breakdowns. Attendees will critique the good and bad of board performance, provide real-time feedback about ways it can be improved, and learn about strategies for greater governance effectiveness.

WILLIAM C. SCHOENHARD, FACHE - ACHE Speaker, Fri., June 30, 7-8:30 a.m.
William C. Schoenhard, FACHE, has served as executive vice president/chief operating officer for SSM Health Care since 1986. Prior to assuming this role, Schoenhard served as executive director of SSM St. Joseph Health Center, St. Charles, MO, and SSM St. Joseph Hospital West, Lake St. Louis, MO; executive director of Arcadia Valley Hospital, Pilot Knob, MO; and associate executive director of SSM St. Mary's Health Center, St. Louis, MO. Before he joined SSM Health Care, Schoenhard served as vice president and director of General Services at Deaconess Hospital, St. Louis. Schoenhard earned a master's degree with honors in health care administration from Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis. He earned his B.S. in public administration from the University of Missouri, Columbia. Mr. Schoenhard is a past chair of the Missouri Hospital Association and currently serves as the 2006-2007 Chairman of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

KEN BOTTLES, MD - Speaker, Fri., June 30, 9-10 a.m.
Dr. Bottles has extensive experience in research, academia, commercial laboratories, integrated healthcare delivery systems, genomics, proteomics, and management of biotech start-up companies. He is current Managing Member of Proteomed Capital, LP (a genomics and proteomics Venture Capital Fund in New York City). From 1999 to 2001, Dr. Bottles served as President of the Genomics Repository and Chief Knowledge Officer of Genomics Collaborative, Inc., a Cambridge and Philadelphia genomic drug discovery company. He has authored 75 articles and several book chapters and has lectured in the United States and Europe on topics ranging from cytology diagnosis of cancer to managed care and the effect of the Internet on Medicine. Dr. Bottles received his BA degree in history and his Phi Beta Kappa Key from the University of California at Berkeley and his MD degree from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. He is Board Certified in Pathology by the American Board of Pathology and a Fellow of the American College of Physician Executives.
